Social Affairs and Society

We offer our employees an environment and culture in which they can contribute and develop their personalities, skills, competencies and innovative ideas. At the same time, we value a work environment in which our employees feel safe and comfortable. We encourage and support the development of our employees' individual strengths. We encourage variety and diversity.

Safe, healthy and diverse: Apleona's work environment

Apleona is committed to implementing strategies to measurably improve the safety and health of our employees and to reduce workplace accidents. In addition, we will maintain and continuously improve Apleona's ability to attract and retain talent. We will continue to ensure that Apleona provides a diverse and inclusive work environment. An important aspect of this is to inspire women to pursue technical careers and to attract female talent to facility management.

Occupational Safety

As part of our facility and real estate services, we identify risks to people and the environment in advance of our activities. We assess key risks and take appropriate action to minimize them. Our managers act as role models, motivate their employees to behave safely, create safe working conditions and ensure that safety regulations are consistently implemented.

„Our top priority is the health of our employees and the prevention of work-related injuries and accidents.“

COO Michael Engel, responsible for HSEQ at Apleona, among others

Occupational health and safety as a management task

We promote safety awareness among our employees through regular training, campaigns and professional support. Safety inspections by managers have been an integral part of behavioral safety for many years. The monitoring of health and safety through audits, inspections, key figure analysis and reporting is a key factor in the further development of our organization and processes.

We monitor the success of our health and safety goals through detailed action plans and regular measurement of key indicators, including Lost Time Injury Frequency (LTIF), Accident Severity Rate (ASR) and Lost Time Case Ratio (LTCR).

For more information, see our Sustainability Report.

Talent Development

We offer our employees an environment and culture in which they can contribute and develop their personality, skills, competencies and innovative ideas. We are committed to providing a work environment in which our employees feel comfortable. We encourage and support the development of our employees' individual skills.

„Our most important resource is the talent, expertise and potential of our colleagues. That's why the formula for success can be reduced to a clear denominator: If you promote talent, you win.“

Dr. Catharina Lenz, CHRO

We encourage variety and diversity

The opportunities and tasks within the Apleona Group are diverse and offer our employees long-term prospects. We support our employees in their personal development and encourage career paths across companies and countries.

Modern workplaces with good IT equipment and innovative software enable us to effectively deliver our services to our clients and provide the necessary back-office support. Our employees are supported both professionally and personally.

Our support measures

Training & Further Education

Apleona is an attractive training company for commercial, industrial and technical professions with 678 trainees in 25 training professions (as of December 2023). In order to recruit sufficient junior staff, we intend to continue our training activities with at least 675 trainees per year.

„The FM sector offers interesting and comparatively crisis-proof jobs, especially for technicians. Technical building systems must always be maintained and serviced. You also work on environmental protection every day.“

Dr. Gert W. Riegel, COO

The goal is to meet the company's medium- and long-term employment and skill needs through internal training and recruitment. We support this goal through the following measures

A significant proportion of trainees come from a variety of countries, including Turkey, Syria, Afghanistan, Congo, Jordan, Poland, Portugal, Morocco, Italy, Bosnia, Serbia, Kosovo and Iraq.

Diversity as a success factor

Diversity is a key success factor for Apleona. Given the breadth of our real estate services, the skills, ideas, perspectives and characters of our employees form the basis for making the best possible use of their individual strengths for the overall success of the company.

At Apleona, diversity in all its dimensions is practiced every day:

We do not collect diversity data on the other three dimensions - social background, religion and belief, and sexual orientation - for privacy reasons.

„We all benefit from this climate of openness, appreciation and tolerance. This has a positive impact not only on our reputation with customers and business partners, whether in Germany or in other countries around the world, but also on Apleona and ourselves.“

Dr. Jochen Keysberg, CEO Apleona

Our employees can be assured that no one is disadvantaged on the basis of these seven dimensions of diversity. All Apleona employees have equal opportunities to be hired and to grow within the company. The recruitment process at Apleona is based solely on the skills and enthusiasm of the candidates for their respective areas of responsibility.

Apleona has a clear and comprehensive policy against any form of discrimination. We expect all our employees to contribute to a productive work environment and to treat others with respect, tolerance and consideration.

All of us at Apleona are committed to working together to create a diverse and respectful work environment - in every situation, in every place.

Share of women at Apleona

The share of women in Apleona's workforce at the end of 2023 was 39.5%, compared to 36.6% in 2022. The share of women in management positions (management levels 1-3) was 23.2% at the end of 2023, compared to 21.7% in 2022.

Apleona's success in increasing the share of women in management positions is due to the company's ability to promote, retain and attract female talent within and outside the industry. However, Apleona's goal is far from being reached. By 2027, we aim to have at least 25% women on Apleona's supervisory and administrative boards.

We have summarized the issues of diversity, equal opportunity and anti-discrimination in the Apleona Group's Corporate Social Responsibility Policy. We also support the ZIA Real Estate Code on Diversity.
